| I am, and always have been, a huge fan of poetry. I absolute love anything that speaks to me on an instinctual, primal level, even if it's just someone's doodle on a diner napkin. A few weeks ago, I was watching Antwone Fisher, a biography directed by Denzel Washington, and was reminded again of how powerful simple words can be by the poem read in the movie, and have become obsessed with Antwone's poetry ever since. The poem that was recited in the movie is below. If it speaks to you as much as it speaks to me, I highly recommend looking up more of Antwone Fisher's wonderfully raw and inspiring work, not to mention watching his self-titled biography. Who will cry for the little boy? By Antwone Fisher
Who will cry for the little boy? Lost and all alone. Who will cry for the little boy? Abandoned without his own?
Who will cry for the little boy? He cried himself to sleep. Who will cry for the little boy? He never had for keeps.
Who will cry for the little boy? He walked the burning sand Who will cry for the little boy? The boy inside the man.
Who will cry for the little boy? Who knows well hurt and pain Who will cry for the little boy? He died again and again.
Who will cry for the little boy? A good boy he tried to be Who will cry for the little boy? Who cries inside of me |
